A photo of "Northland Prince" taken from our kitchen window. The ship was owned and operated by "Johnston Terminal" and it made one trip per week. It would sail from Vancouver to Ocean Falls and then to Prince Rupert. On the way back to Vancouver it would dock at Ocean Falls again. The ship was equipped with quite comfortable cabins and bunks and it certainly was more reliable than the airplanes. Most of the trip to Vancouver would be by the inside passage and there was only a stretch of about 50 miles where the ship was fully exposed to the swell from the Pacific Ocean. However, they could be quite bad and seasickness was not uncommon.
